Diesel/Rv’s/Heavy Duty Vehicles
Diesel vehicles, RVs, and Heavy-duty vehicles must also undergo a smog check, though the requirements differ slightly from standard passenger vehicles. Diesel vehicles are tested if they are model year 1998 or newer, with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of up to 14,000 pounds. Their smog check includes an On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) test, a visual inspection of emissions components, and a check for visible smoke. RVs and heavy-duty vehicles may require additional inspections, especially if they exceed certain weight limits. These vehicles undergo an emissions test and a functional inspection of key components to ensure proper operation of the emissions control systems. If any issues are found, repairs are required for the vehicle to meet emissions standards and pass the smog check.
